In Alicante, the cultivation of vines dates back to
the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Greeks and Arabs that colonized this
region. From the very beginning of civilization they appreciated the
suitable qualities for cultivation of vines and elaboration of the wines
in this area.
The lands for the production of the wines in Alicante are divided into
two fully differentiated regions: the middle and high basin of the river
Vinalopo, which descends until arriving at Alicantes capital and the
zone of La Marina. The greater production of wine growing in the Denomination
of Origin Alicante is found concentrated on the banks of the Vinalopo
River.
