A
winery founded in 2003, situated at the foot of the Prenafeta mountain.
It has 7 hectares of its own vineyard, cultivating with P. Noir, C.
Franc, Merlot, Garnacha, Cariñena and Chenin Blanc. The cultivation
of the vineyard is totally biologically and with biodynamic principles.
These wines are a natural as you can get. Joan Ramon Escoda-Sanahuja
uses no sulfites either in the vineyard, nor during any part of the
vinification process (if possible). To insure that his wines are stable
he puts the wines through a very long and slow maceration period under
with very controlled temperature conditions a method that captures natural
carbon dioxide which becomes a natural preservative to the wine and
creates wines that have long and silky tannin structures with great
follow through on the finish. The wines are not filtered, nor fined.
All the bottling, vineyard management and harvest is done with the cycle
of the moon - Bio-dynamic. The vineyards are of calcareous soils located
at an altitude between 450 – 600m. This provides both character
and elegance to the wines from it special terrain.

Els
Bassots Chenin Blanc 2006 (750ml)
Has very driven aromas with pronounced vibrant fruit; lemon, tart apple,
mixed with strong mineral accent which turns into an almost smoky character
that is very reminiscent of gun-flint. It has a firm almost edgy quality
compared to more traditional Chenin Blanc. It's sharp, and tightly packed
profile of tropical/exotic fruits together with notes of baking warm
spices compliment the mineral driven finish. Aeration to this wine is
highly recommended as it needs time to develop and release all that
it has to offer. There was very little sulphites added .01 grams to
the wine since the winemaker wants to keep his wines as natural as possible.
This Chenin Blanc went through an extremely slow maceration period on
the skins under very cool conditions which produces a reductive blanket
that protects the wine and therefore does not need to add sulphites
to stabilize the wine.
Els
Bassots Chenin Blanc 2007 (750ml)
In 2007, the wine is slightly rounder and shows less of the razors-edge
like acidity and vibrancy that the 2006 had to offer. The wine still
has very driven aromas with pronounced vibrant fruit; lemon, tart apple,
mixed with strong mineral accent which turns into an almost smoky character
that is very reminiscent of gun-flint. The fruit is more upfront and
expressive within its tightly packed profile of tropical/exotic fruits
together with notes of baking warm spices compliment the mineral driven
finish.
Les
Paradetes Garnacha/Carinena 2005 (750ml)
This well concentrated red is made from a blend of Garnacha and Carinena.
A wine that has a deep profile of aromas and flavors with a superbly
fresh and clean personality capturing the signature vibrant acidity
that lifts the wine all the way through. The mid palate is superb, with
tons of blue fruits, berries, loaded with minerals and spice. Serious
bottle of wine.
Les
Paradetes Garnacha/Carinena 2006 (750ml)
This well concentrated red is made from a blend of 40% Garnacha, 40%
Sumoll, and 20% Samso, aged for 7 months in French oak barrels. In this
vintage, the wine has a very deep profile of dark aromas, intense licorice,
wild herbs together with flavors of earth, minerals, wet leaves that
are superbly fresh and clean, capturing the signature vibrant acidity
that lifts the wine all the way through. The mid palate is superb, with
tons of blue fruits, berries, loaded with minerals and spice. Joan has
delivered another great wine! It can certainly be compared to some of
the best structured and complex Rhone wines from France.
La
Llopetera Pinot Noir 2005 (750ml)
Joan proudly states that this is his best example to date. Made from
100% P. Noir grapes aged for 7 months in French oak barrels. A Spanish
Pinot Noir that offers similar charm and perfume of a great red Burgundy
but yet true to its origins. At first, the wine starts off very shy
but with time it evolves, developing a much broader character both in
aromas and fruit expression on the palate. Has a dark-ruby color, with
intense aromas of red fruits, cherries and black currant, with a touch
of soft fine oak tones that are so well integrated. In the mouth the
fruit is dominant, with a lot of freshness, mineral nuances, long and
delicious finish. Without a doubt one of Spain’s surprises and
hidden gems.

Coll
del Sabater Cabernet Franc/Merlot 2004 (750ml)
Made from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that has been
aged for 10 months in exclusively French oak barrels. This is very much
in style of the great wines of Bordeaux, St. Emilion. It captures a
seductive truffle-like quality mixed with notes of ink, iodine, violet
tones, dark fruits, mineral notes, enticing shades of nutty oak character
that is packaged in a well defined and elegant style. The fruit is superbly
clean, delivering tremendous flavor profile with a long finish. It sees
no malolactic fermentation at all.
